Middle School, Week 1
How does the year begin in a learner-driven school? 🏁
Instead of premade rules, it begins with a foundation. 🧱
Our Middle School bravely explores the fundamentals of what will become the self-governing of their school.
They debate how to come to the best decisions: majority, consensus, weighted votes.
They discuss leadership structures and their parts: direct and representative democracy, official oppositions, appointments, monarchy, meritocracy, and preliminary checks & balances.
Swept by the excitement of new ideas, they launched into political speeches and conducted a vote. 🗳️
Next week they look further towards the horizon, exploring a judicial system and drafting a founding document. 📜👩⚖️
