Interdisciplinary High School Opening Sep 2021

December 20, 2020

We are thrilled to let you know that our High School program will be opening September 2021 at Innovation Works. We were all ready for 2020 until COVID-19 hit!

With our staff, space, and program ready to go: we just need some eager teenagers who want to take control of their eduction. We are accepting eight fourteen or fifteen-year-olds who desire something different than what a large traditional school provides.

Infinity School is an affiliate of the Acton Academy program, which is a full-time learner-driven, experiential learning school – the only school of its kind in SW Ontario.

What does that mean?

The students here thrive by independently learning at their own pace while being challenged to grow under the mentorship and support of our team of adults. They tackle tough real-world challenges, unpack problems, and dig into learning. In the process, they get very good at “soft skills” like critical thinking, working in a team-environment, and having high-level conversations.

If you’d like to know more about the how of this process, we encourage you to book a tour!

Imagine a place where young adults are encouraged to explore and challenged to go further than they thought possible, supported by adults who truly care about them.

This is also a place where shaming, bullying, and belittling are immediately addressed in the rare times they might occur — this is a safe space to be who you are.

And as an added bonus, our grade nine program and forthcoming complete high school start at 9:30am (finish at 3:45pm) and there is no homework. Doing work at home is just not necessary given all that gets accomplished during the day. There is lots of time for family, friends, activities, rest, volunteering, or even getting a job!

Is this a high school program for “gifted” teenagers?

Yes and no. Gifted children do very well in our program but so do others – the “gift” is being able to work at the pace you need to love learning.

What if my child is already enrolled somewhere else?

That’s okay. You should be able to cancel your enrolment in a public school program without penalty. If you have paid a non-refundable deposit to a traditional private school program, we will deduct that from your tuition for this year.

Who is a good fit for this program?

In a learner-driven environment, the following characteristics tend to be a great fit for this style of education:

How do I apply (for my child)?

  1. Contact us for a phone conversation. During this discussion we can learn more about each other and see if there is a good fit.
  2. Apply. Applications will include a fee deposit, reference letter, and copy of the most recent report card.
  3. Become Approved. Once those are received and approved, your child is in!

Previous marks do not matter. We know that report cards are often not a true reflection of who someone is. We do require a reference letter from a recent teacher or principal. For homeschooled children, that reference can come from someone who knows the child through a family connection, volunteering, or involvement in an activity.

What is my first step to apply?

We encourage you to look through our website, particularly the calendar page, tuition form, FAQs, and virtual tour page. The virtual tour is for our Elementary Campus but you can get a good feel for things by going through that. After you’ve done that, please contact us.
